Things to
Know
: Starting
before daylight: Your day at Paradise Valley will begin with a wake up knock on your door at whatever time it is you need to get dressed and serve yourself a continental type breakfast of juice, coffee, milk, and doughnuts or granola. We will head out in time for you to be in your stand approximately 20 minutes before daylight; people typically sit until 9:30 or 10:00a.m. We will work to accommodate your preference on sitting times. Most shots will be 100 to 125 yards, but you can shoot up to 200 yards in some stands. We have spent a lot of time locating the best areas to put stands and drop corn. We corn heavily and often. If you get a deer we will bring it into the camp for pictures and the opportunity to share your experience with other campers. Then we will take the deer from the morning to the local processor to have them dressed and hung in the cooler
|
| After the morning hunt the campers are served a full course breakfast and have the rest of the day to relax, nap, enjoy the fully equipped game room, or fish. There is also a 50 and 100 yard target covered rifle range. We insist that you check your gun after travel to ensure that your opportunity will not become a miss. Many people have learned the benefit of this the hard way. Tom and I have a lot of experience shooting at the bench and are very willing to help you sight in your rifle. There is also a nearby plantation, Broxton Bridge, which offers fishing, sporting clays, release quail, ducks, pheasants, pigeons, and horseback riding. Shopping is also great for wives and children in the cities of Charleston, Savannah, and Columbia, which are all within an hour and 15 minutes. |
The afternoon hunt with be for the last 2 ½ to 3 hours of daylight, which we have found is the best time for deer movement. It is best if you are able to bring a large scope to identify deer as late as is legal. The same routine with pictures and a trip to the processor will occur before supper. This meal will be served family style with several vegetables, bread, and a meat. There is also a dessert. All of our hunters become fast friends during this time. After supper, if you have killed a nice deer, or your first deer, we can post a picture on the website so you can share your success with friends and family back home.
Where you will be: You will be hunting on over 5000 acres of all different types of land from hardwoods to planted pines and the edges of farm fields. The big local crops are soybeans and corn, with a limited amount of peanuts and cotton. We have over 100 stands and pick carefully as to not over-hunt any area. This is what we believe makes for interesting sittings and success. All stands are fed corn and most are on food plots, which we keep green year round. The plots are planted with lots of varieties to keep a choice for the deer and turkeys to browse and feed. However, some of our best stands are in the woods on roads and shooting lanes.
Most all the stands are large enough to sit two adults comfortably, have roofs, sides, and shooting rails for you to help steady your gun and make that perfect shot and clean kill your animal. We highly encourage you to shoulder shoot, making a clean kill and preventing us from having to go in the woods with the dogs to recover your animal. We have two of the best trail dogs in the country, but they really do not need any practice. If we have to go in the woods we can not sit that stand for a week or so from the contamination.
A Few Simple Rules: At Paradise Valley it is our goal to not only ensure you a wonderful hunt but also a good time. For everybody to have a safe, fun time, we ask that each hunter follow a few simple rules. We will remind you to be very quiet getting in and out of the vehicles at your stand as slammed doors reduce not only your chances at a successful hunt but also those of the people around you. We ask that you remain quiet during your time in the woods as well, and not leave any trash in or out of your stand. You will be required to stay in your stand until your guide comes to get you – regardless of whether or not you shoot. This is to keep you out of harms way and also to keep scent off of the area. You will also be required to keep the bolts open on all guns at all times, except while you are in the stand. They must be visibly open – no exceptions.
Processing and Mounting: We use a local deer processor, Southern Spice Venison Processing, where you can have your deer field dressed, quartered, and put in your cooler when you leave for home for $18.00, plus 3.00 per day cooling charge. For $55.00 they will do a total processing with vacuum packing. They also offer extra options such as jerky, summer sausage (also with jalapeño cheese), and snack sticks. They do such an excellent job that many hunters have their meat done here and just pick it up during their next trip.
We use Three Mile Creek Taxidermy for our mounts. Jeremy Bessinger is a local very close friend of ours who has just got into the trade but has really picked up fast on quality, and is doing a great job. He takes great pride in his work, and being located right here makes it real convenient to get the animals to him timely without any chance of hide or hair damage.
We would prefer you make your hunt 3 to 5 days long which will give you the best chance at a nice trophy. As you know, you usually have to pass up some deer TO GET THE RIGHT ONE!!! We will have several of his mounts in the game room so you can preview his work and decide if you would like to use him as well.
