After several years of trying to find the right piece of property in Alabama to do some January Only Rut hunts, we have come up with 3200 acres of land in Alabama's infamous black belt. Situated in Bullock County, and now Barbour County, just across the Pea River. Smuteye in Bullock, and Boot Hill, in Barbour County,is just 15 to 20 miles south of the well known trophy producing area surrounding Union Springs. My son Tom and I have enjoyed Blackbelt whitetail hunting for several years after our South Carolina season closes on New Years day. We are happy to finally be able to offer our hunters a chance to enjoy Alabama's trophy deer hunting with us.

**Note We do not hunt over corn!! Small amounts of corn are used during our scouting period at trail camera sets. All corn is removed over 1 month prior to our hunts. The Land The 3200 acres is owned by two ”hands on” farmers who have not allowed the land to be over hunted and shot out, during the 25 years they have owned it. This property consists of agriculture and classic river bottom habitat, and some pasture land with cattle. This year the agriculture areas are planted with corn, and peanuts, which will be reseeded with rye and oats for the January hunts. The new excellent 929 acre piece we just took today, Dec 4th, 2008, will be managed for 125 class bucks and bigger, for those looking for a place to seriously hunt for real Alabama Trophy Bucks, no exceptions. Rate will be the same. The food plots are all planted in with rye, rape, clover, turnips, and other cultivars to attract and hold the deer on the property. Parts of each food plot will be planted with corn to be left standing this season to provide legal food for the deer while we are hunting them. We will hunt the stands starting early January . No sooner.
The Hunt We will only hunt 6 to 8 hunters per day for the 3 weeks of hunting and with that plan are hoping our hunters will have opportunities at some really nice bucks. We will continue to hunt mature bucks with 17” wide outside spreads, or with scoring antlers of 110" minimum Boone and Crockett on the 2200 plus acres we have had, plus does, and 125" class bucks only on the new 929, for those who are really wanting to wait of a True Trophy Black Belt Buck, no exceptions. There will be a $750.00 penalty for taking a buck under the required size, no exceptions. We have talked with hunters with long term leases on adjoining properties who have been managing their land for many years. They are excited about our plans on becoming their neighbors, and we to are very pleased to have neighbors who have been managing their properties.
Instead of taking our 3200 acres and putting stands within seeing distance to others, like some do, we will hunt a limited number of stands on the entire property. The stands settings typically will be on field edges overlooking feed plots, in edges of drains overlooking food plots or pastures, and now with the new land, in hardwood bottoms, near the river. Our aim is to leave a lot of the areas free of hunter traffic, hunter scent, and hunter pressure. Minimizing scent and the unwanted problem of running the deer off to the neighbors.
With our first season behind us, sightings by hunters, a couple of which were 150" class bucks, and pictures on trail cameras, we feel very comfortable with the property being able to provide high success hunts like our hunters have become accustomed to here in South Carolina. Bag Limits The hunt allows one buck only, blooded bucks count as that buck, and one doe per hunt (three days). An Additional buck may be taken for 750.00 extra. Depending on sightings and whether the hunters shoot enough does will determine whether we shoot additional does or not.
The hunts will be 3 days only, Thursday evenings through Sunday mornings, and Monday evenings through Thursday mornings. If a group can only hunt during the week, if scheduling allows, we will try to work it out.
 Lodging / Meals
Camp consists of a very nice, clean mobile home and a 37 foot fleetwood rv. We will be serving Country Style Home Cooking like our hunters have come to expect here at our camp in South Carolina. Remember, Geneva will be out there doing the cooking too, from here at the main camp in South Carolina.
Rates
This hunt is $1395.00 per person for the three day hunt. Meals and lodging are included of course. Cleaning of Animals We have a cooler to hang the quartered meat in until you leave, with you being able to skinn and field dress your own animals, or a tip will get your guide to do it for you. There is also a processor about 10 minutes away if you would rather go that route. We sincerely appreciate your consideration for hunting with us. Alabama hunting license can be bought by phone with credit card at 888-848-6887. The fee for the 3 day license is $120.00. Bang and Tom Collins
